Harry’s Festive treats

Wonderful Harry, a 14 year old from Surrey was diagnosed with ALL (Leukemia) in December, 2024.

Harry’s Story (In His Mum’s Words) 💙

“It’s extremely likely it’s blood cancer.”

These were the words on the evening of the 11th of December 2024. Our beautiful boy Harry was just 13.

Harry was like any other 13 year old boy, loved football and rugby, being with his friends and family.

Around a month before his diagnosis he had pain in his knees, bruising and chest pain. We had been back and from the drs every few weeks with no answers. The week of his diagnosis I demanded a blood test — and that was when our world exploded.

Harry was admitted into intensive care to start treatment. We were plunged into a nightmare and at the center was trying to keep our 13 year old son alive.

His Leukaemia was everywhere — his brain, spinal fluid, kidneys and testicles. The team had to act fast.

Harry went into remission surprisingly quickly, but he then suffered extreme reactions to one of the drugs causing five blood clots, one on the lung.

We were back in intensive care. He could not move, not even lift his head off the pillow. He wore nappies, had a feeding tube, and could do nothing for himself. The drugs that saved his life nearly ended it.

Harry spent eight months in hospital and had to learn to walk again. Nearly a year on, he now walks on crutches but still relies heavily on his wheelchair. His recovery is slow — but he is still here.

“Cancer takes so much from you, it takes your health, your sleep, your laughter and sometimes it takes your life.”

“Family days give us something to look forward to… it gives a beacon of hope that life is still possible even with cancer.”
