Iain and Lester recently took on the Chicago Marathon in support of Holly’s Heroes, completing an amazing challenge and, together, raising a fantastic £2,856 for our charity.
Every mile they ran and every pound they raised will help Holly’s Heroes continue supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer. But behind this achievement is a story that makes their challenge even more special.
As a teenager, Iain was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. During his treatment, he lost his arm. He faced something no young person should ever have to face, but today, against the odds, Iain is not only here, he is running marathons.
There is something incredibly powerful about seeing someone who experienced cancer as a teenager now pushing himself through 26.2 miles to help children and young people facing cancer today.
Alongside Lester, Iain took on the streets of Chicago with Holly’s Heroes behind them, turning every difficult mile into something positive for other families.
Their £2,856 fundraising total is an incredible achievement, but what Iain and Lester have given Holly’s Heroes goes far beyond the money raised. Their marathon represents determination, friendship, hope and a reminder of just how much strength people can find during and after the most difficult chapters of their lives.
To Iain and Lester, thank you. Thank you for choosing Holly’s Heroes, for putting yourselves through months of preparation and 26.2 gruelling miles, and to every single person who sponsored and supported you along the way.
And Iain, your story is an extraordinary reminder of why hope matters.
From a teenager battling osteosarcoma and losing an arm, to standing on the start line of a marathon and crossing that finish line. What an incredible journey.
We could not be prouder to have you both running for Holly’s Heroes.
